Charleston Puaonaona Almeida was born on February 17, 1922, and we lost him on February 9, 1974.
Johnny Almeida both raised and mentored his hanai son, Pua, as his primary protégé.
Young Pua first performed at the age of 6 and turned professional at the age of 16.
Pua became a gifted guitarist and steel guitarist, with an exceptional tenor voice.
Pua Almeida was a dynamic superstar who never played or sang a song the same way twice, always pouring his entire heart and soul into every performance.

John Piilani Watkins
John Thomas Pi’ilani Watkins was born on December 24, 1928 in Damon Tract, Kaloaloa, O’ahu, and we lost him at the age of 54 on February 25, 1983.
John Pi’ilani Watkins is remembered as a chanter, dancer, teacher, composer, and recording artist.
Cord International released a compact disc, “Songs to Remember Hana Maui”, which celebrated the many compositions and recordings from Watkins’ time in Hana, Maui.
So today, we’ll focus on other compositions and recordings that will share even more insight into the talented genius of John Pi’ilani Watkins.

Pauline Kekahuna
Pauline Ka'ilihoa Kekahuna was born on December 29, 1919, in Honolulu, and we lost her at age 58, on January 28, 1978.
Pauline was born on Esther Street, in Kapahulu, which was named after her mother, Esther “Mama Deah” Kaleikini.
Pauline’s 1st professional job was as an ukulele player and singer at the Lalani Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.
She was just 14 years old.
Pauline Kekahuna was the founder of the “Hauoli Hula Studio” which won the group hula category at the very 1st Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1971.
Pauline Kekahuna also entertained often as guitarist for Genoa Keawe, Kent Ghirard’s Hula Nani Girls, and others.

Randy Oness
We'll celebrate the incredible life of Randy Oness:
At age 3, he was playing ukulele & singing to neighbors in Kalihi.
At age 6, he shook the hand of Queen Lili’uokalani.
While at Kamehameha Schools, he was mentored in music by Henri Berger.
After graduation, he worked for Johnny Noble at the Moana Hotel.
Four years later, he joined the Harry Owens Orchestra at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
After WWII, Randy formed his own band, Randy Oness’ Select Hawaiian Serenaders.
We’ll focus on those recordings today.

Naughty Abbie
Abigail Punia Pua’oi was born on September 20, 1914 in Libbyville, Ko’olau Poko, Kane’ohe, O’ahu, Hawaii. We lost her, at age 58, on April 15, 1973.
At age 3, Abbie’s family moved to a Hawaiian homestead of Ho’olehua, Molokai, where she was raised.
Returning to Honolulu, Abbie Pua’oi married Sonny Ah Mook Sang on September 28, 1934, just after her 21st birthday.
The couple had 3 sons and a daughter.
While dancing naughty hula at “Club Polynesia” in Honolulu with Genoa Keawe & her Hawaiians, Abbie’s kolohe personality earned her the nickname of “Naughty Abbie”, the “Comic Entertainer”.
