Kolomone, or Solomon, Kalamuhia Kekipi Ke Ali’ika’apuni Ku Keala O Ka Mahanahana Bright, was born on November 9, 1909, and he left us at the age of 83, on April 27, 1992.
Andrew Kealoha Cummings was born on August 2, 1913, and he left us at the age of 81, on June 23, 1995.
These 2 gentlemen entertained together often for Hawaiian Airlines in the 1950s and 1960s, so the always enterprising Andy Cummings put out a record of the two performing some of their hits, in the late 1960s, on the Hawaiian Melodies label. Although they were aging from their 50s to their 60s, this final session is a memorable recording.

Alice Namakelua
Ku’uleialohapoina’ole Kanakaoluna was born on August 12, 1892 in Honoka’a, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
In school, her teacher, who could not pronounce her Hawaiian name, dubbed the young girl, “Alice”.
As a child, she was raised to sing, and play the slack key and steel guitars.
Moving to Honolulu in 1927, she eventually joined the Honolulu Parks Department, where she would educate generations of keiki.
We lost Auntie Alice on April 27, 1987, at the age of 94. Happily, Hula Records released a solo LP of Alice singing her own compositions in 1974.

Cyrus Green
Cyrus Lamb Green was born in Kalihi on April 18, 1935.
And we lost him in Kona, on March 10, 1982.
Cyrus Green was only 47 years old.
Fortunately, he had recorded his debut solo LP less than a year before his unexpected death.

Home Grown Album Series
Radio legend Ron Jacobs came home from KGB Radio in San Diego, after a lengthy mainland career, and began broadcasting on KKUA radio in Honolulu.
He brought the “Home Grown” concept with him, and it became an instant hit in Hawaii.
The series of albums, numbers one through four, provided undiscovered Hawaii singers, instrumentalists, and composers, with an outlet for their creativity, and served as a benefit for “Habilitat”, a place of change.

The Polynesians
Three transplanted Hawaiian musicians came together in Los Angeles, California. In 1951, they took a gig together at the “Tahitian Hut”, using the name, “The Polynesians”.
Harry Baty, Sam Ka’apuni, and Bob Nichols would go on to have an illustrious career as the “Polynesians”, adding to their already lengthy and successful individual Hawaiian music careers in L.A.
For their numerous recordings, The Polynesians would be joined by the likes of Freddie and Ernie Tavares, Sam Koki, Lani Sang, and Ben Chapman.
