Ernest G. Paschoal was born in Wailuku, Maui, on May 2, 1912, and he passed away at the age of 72, in August of 1984.
Ernest was the founder and President of Paschoals’s Gray Line Motor Tours, a Maui tour operator that thrived during the 1950s.
Ernest realized that several of his singing drivers were talented musicians & singers, so he formed a group named, “Paschoal’s Gray Line Troubadours”. After performing together on Maui for 7 years, Tradewinds Records recorded the combo as “The Maui Hawaiians”.

George Kainapau - 1955
George Kainapau was born in Hilo, Hawaii, on May 22, 1905, and he left us at the age of 87, on September 14, 1992.
George’s parents were Hannah (Kahananui) and George Kainapau, Sr.
George, Jr. began singing at the Volcano House in the 1920s, and in 1928 was taken to the mainland U.S. by Sol Ho’opi’i. George would go on to tour and record extensively, with a host of Hawaiian music stars.
Today, we’ll hear a beautiful Hi-Fi recording George made on the Decca label, while on the mainland in 1955, courtesy of the Territorial Airwaves archives.

Kai Davis
Peter Kai Davis was born in Wailua, Maui, on January 12, 1926, and he left us at the age of 48, on February 12, 1974.
Kai’s parents were George Kalai Davis & Apolonia Clara Kala Opupele.
While married to Lilly Awa, Kai had 2 sons: Wendell & Allan.
In his too-brief career, Kai Davis did record.
Today, we’ll hear treasured recordings of the beautiful falsetto voice of Kai Davis, from both 78rpm and 331/3rpm discs, including cherished compositions of Kai’s, courtesy of the Territorial Airwaves archives.

Van Diamond Collection
Augustine Van Horn Diamond was born on May 30, 1939 and he left us at the age of 73, on August 5, 2012.
Van was an accomplished singer and upright bass player who performed in Waikiki with his mother, Marion Diamond, and his aunt, Lila Replinger, for 30 years as the “Diamond Serenaders”.
Van was also a labor leader and a community advocate.
Van’s widow, Kathy, kindly donated Van’s record collection to the Territorial Airwaves archives.

Andy Cummings
Andrew Kealoha Cummings was born on August 2, 1913 in Honolulu, and we lost him at the age of 81 on June 23, 1995.
Andy Cummings, the composer of the classic song, “Waikiki”, dedicated his life to sharing the beauty of Hawaii with the world.
