Melelani Ka’ula moved from her home island of Ni’ihau to O’ahu!
In 1973, she formed the Melelani Serenaders.
Mele played her trademark double strumming style of ukulele and sang lead soprano.
Helen Ku’uipo “Legs” Kim Choy played rhythm guitar and sang 2nd soprano.
Lana Ku’upua Ka’auwalu also played rhythm guitar and sang alto.
The wahine trio was backed by Wally Ka’okai on lead electric guitar, and Alvin Kulani on electric bass.

Robert L. Williams was born on September 19, 1921 in Savannah, Georgia.
He passed away in Inglewood, California on February 16, 2002.
Billy Ward & his Dominoes were one of the best selling American rhythm & blues groups of the 1950s.
In 1957, Billy Ward & the Dominoes played the 49th State Fair at the Honolulu Stadium on King Street in Honolulu.
Upon his return to Hollywood, Billy Ward began working on a Hawaii-themed album.

Territorial Airwaves - "Home At Hanalei" - 3/16/2012

Hanalei is the name of the valley with high mountains and a river that carves a long course to the coastal plain, emptying into the sea at Hanalei Bay, which glistens like a jewel on Kauai’s northern coast.

The Birkmyre Estate was used as the French Planter’s home in the 1957 movie, “South Pacific”.

The Hanalei Plantation Hotel was later built on the site.

The “House of Happy Talk” at the Hanalei Plantation Hotel always featured memorable Hawaiian music.
