The Island Recording Studio was owned and operated by Maddy K. Lam and Milla Peterson Yap in the 1950s.
In the 1970s, Maddy Lam and Skippy Hamamoto reissued some of the original 78rpm and 45rpm recordings on a pair of 33 1/3 LP albums on the Noelani Records label.
Many legendary figures in Hawaiian music and hula collaborated on the historic recordings.
Mary Kawena Puku’i, Maddy Lam, Louise Kaleiki, Joseph Kehaulelio, Henry Moikeha Pa, Pele Puku’i Suganuma, Maiki Aiu, and many others shared their talents.
Join us now for “Mele Hula – Reborn as LPs”, as we share memorable recordings from the two volumes!
