Kalama’s Quartet were originally a trio that steel guitarist and falsetto singer, Maika Hanapi, formed in 1926 with ukulele player William Kalama, and harp-guitarist Bob Nawahine.
This group originally recorded as the Hanapi Trio. With the addition of guitarist/vocalist Dave Kaleipua Munson in 1927, the group became Kalama’s Quartet. Although a 2nd steel guitarist, Bob Matsu, joined in 1928, the group’s name was not changed.
The majority of their recordings were made by Okeh Records between 1928 and 1932.
We previously shared a program of their music on April 28, 2014. So in this show, we’ll Hana Hou!
From 90 plus years ago, we’ll share this memorable music.
