Hawaiian musical ensembles began crisscrossing the continental United States in the 19th century.
Lui Thompson got his start playing in Mekia Kealakai’s Hawaiian Orchestra. He later performed with Kealakai at the 1901 Buffalo World’s Fair, in Buffalo, New York.
In 1904, Thompson led a tour of the Honolulu Students across the Continent of the United States.
Also known as the Royal Hawaiian Troubadours, they were recorded during the tour in 1904.
Kilin Reece, Hawaii-based luthier, has discovered 12 discs featuring the combo of:
Lui Thompson Keouli, Fred W. Kahea, James Pekelo, David Ka’ai Kaleikoa, Madame Anehila, and William Holoua.
Kilin has released this restored collection on KR Records, available on KRStrings.com, and Kilin is with us today to share this music.
