Lena Waialeale Machado was born in Honolulu on October 16, 1903.
We lost her on January 22, 1974, at the age of 70.
Her career spanned decades, and she was adored by fans both here in Hawaii and elsewhere around the globe.
She made numerous recordings, but in this program, we’ll focus on a Decca session she did in Hollywood on Thursday, September 23, 1937.
On December 18, 2015, we featured some of Lena’s recordings from the Hoku Award winning CD that we did with Cord International.
In this program, we’ll Hana Hou, and play another hour of her Decca releases, all recorded on Thursday, September 23, 1937.
