Johnny Spencer had been the manager of the Niumalu Hotel in Kalia, Waikiki, producing & directing the Hawaiian shows there.
But Henry J. Kaiser purchased the Niumalu Hotel in 1954 in order to build his Hawaiian Village Hotel. Johnny Spencer moved to Kona, Hawaii to open a steakhouse and assembled a group to perform there.
His Kona Koasters included Little “Joe” Kekauoha, George Paoa, Solomon “Babalu” Davis, & Gil Brown.
They created their own interpretation of what is now referred to as exotica tiki music.
Today, almost 60 years later, we’ll share this classic music.
