Numerous Hawaiian recording artists and entertainers got their start as tour escorts, aka: tour guides.
In the Territory of Hawaii, visitors were placed under the care of guides, who also sang and danced Hawaiian music during their guided tours.
Notable examples include Paschaol’s Tradewind Tour drivers on Maui, and Bill Ka’iwa in Waikiki.
Many others thrived.
Margaret Williams of Tradewinds Records decided to record Bob Davis, who had hosted and greeted at both the Halekulani Hotel, and for the great white Matson ocean liner, the S.S. Lurline.
Today, 50 plus years later, we’ll share memorable selections from this groundbreaking release !
