John Celestino Almeida, Jr. was born to John Celestino Almeida, Sr. and Julia Kamaka on November 28, 1897 in Pauoa Valley, O’ahu.
After John, Sr. returned to Portugal, Paulo Kameaaloha hanai’d John, Jr. and his sister, Annie.
Eventually, after John C. Almeida, Hawaii’s blind musician, had gained great success as a performer and composer, he adopted his hanai father’s last name as his middle name for the rest of his life.
John Kameaaloha Almeida passed away at the age of 87 on October 9, 1985.
Today, we’ll hear highlights of a tribute CD issued by Cord International in 2003 to honor the music of John Kameaaloha Almeida.
