Marcel Rene George Archer-Ceran was born in Tahiti in 1906.
Immigrating to Los Angeles, he finally moved to Hawaii and married Audrey Robinson of Paia, Maui, who had been born there in 1919.
George’s career had been focused on Tahitian music, but he & Audrey began composing hapa haole songs.
George built his group with Splash Lyons on steel guitar and Tommy Carter on vibes.
Bill Akamuhou Dias & Elissa Kroll were vocalists.
Dorothy Kahananui, “Jr.” wrote the harmony vocal arrangements, and sang as well.
Today, we’ll celebrate the early recorded legacy of George Tautu Archer & his Pagans from the Territorial Airwaves archives.
