Phillip Andrew Emerson was born on October 9, 1951, and his brother Kenton Robert Emerson was born on September 15, 1953.
Living in the San Francisco bay area, the boys began playing guitar, focusing on folk and blues material.
Drawn to vintage Hawaiian 78rpm Hawaiian recordings, they learned to emulate the players of the 1920s and 1930s on vintage instruments.
Ron Jacobs gave them their big break in 1978 by including their recording on the “HomeGrown III” album.
In 1979, Mountain Apple released “The Emersons”, in the same year that Territorial Airwaves was launched.
Today, we’ll celebrate the early recorded legacy of the Emerson Brothers from the Territorial Airwaves archives.
