Hear songs by several Hawaiian composers who chose to write about inanimate objects built in 20th century Hawaii.
Instead of focusing on the traditional subjects of Hawaiian mele: Hawaii’s people and place names, underscored through the natural elements of the wind, the rain, the sea, and the land, these writers instead turned their attention to buildings, tunnels, edifices, and ships.
Today, we’ll listen to some of our favorite selections from the recorded legacy of Man Made Hula.
