Pauline Ka'ilihoa Kekahuna was born on December 29, 1919, in Honolulu, and we lost her at age 58, on January 28, 1978.
Pauline was born on Esther Street, in Kapahulu, which was named after her mother, Esther “Mama Deah” Kaleikini.
Pauline’s 1st professional job was as an ukulele player and singer at the Lalani Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.
She was just 14 years old.
Pauline Kekahuna was the founder of the “Hauoli Hula Studio” which won the group hula category at the very 1st Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo, Hawaii, in 1971.
Pauline Kekahuna also entertained often as guitarist for Genoa Keawe, Kent Ghirard’s Hula Nani Girls, and others.
