Daniel Stewart Kalauawa was born on August 5, 1907, in the Makiki neighborhood of Honolulu.
As a young musician, he would change his name in the same manner that
Alfred Ah Fat became Alfred Apaka, and
Hal Alama became Hal Aloma.
Danny Stewart Kalauawa became Danny Kalauawa Stewart.
And before we lost him on April 15, 1962, at the age of 55, he became a true giant of Hawaiian music.
