After more than 40 years as a radio personality, Harry B Soria, Jr. died in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 2021. Click here to read his obituary by John Berger.

Territorial Airwaves, the weekly Hawaiian music radio program hosted by Harry B. Soria, Jr. from Honolulu, Hawaii, was launched on the air on June 13, 1979. Harry B., the third generation of “The First Family of Hawaiian Radio,” followed his father and grandfather into Hawaiian broadcast fame. Harry B. released over 25 compact discs focusing on legendary performers and songs recorded in Hawaii during the Territorial Period and, for his efforts, was recognized with a total of 9 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. Territorial Airwaves is an ever-growing audio history taken from the archives of Harry B. Soria, Jr.

Harry B.'s legacy lives on through this website and the Hawaiian Music Archives Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, which was created by Harry and his wife, Kilohana Silve. The Foundation was created to preserve the knowledge and music Harry collected over his 40 years on the air so it could be a valuable research resource for generations to come. The collection includes over 10,000 recordings and countless documents & media concerning the evolution of Hawaiian music throughout the Territorial period.

The Hawaii State Archives was carefully chosen by the Foundation to be the repository that will make Harry’s entire legacy available to the public online and in-person. You can help in this massive effort:

By donating, you will be supporting the extensive work of the Hawaii State Archives to catalogue and digitalize Harry B.'s monumental collection of music, photos, videos, and documents.
