Explore the evolution of Hawaiian music during a four-part discussion and musical series. Scholars, cultural practitioners, and kumu discuss the influences of missionaries, ali`i, and others on the development of Hawaiian music. After the free talk story, sample pupu and drinks, and then enjoy musical performances of some of the best Hawaiian music the islands have to offer.
Featuring: The nahenahe sounds of Alan Akaka & the Islanders with Nina Keali`iwahamana, Harry B. Soria, Jr., Kumu Hula Pohai Souza and Halau Hula Kamamolikolehua, and the Royal Hawaiian Band.

2013 Alfred Apaka Tribute
For the 3rd year, Alfred's only son, Jeffrey Apaka, leads a tribute show to his late father at the namesake of his Dad's last venue, the Tapa Room at the Kaiser Hawaiian Village. Jeff has a Sunday gig at the Tapa Bar in the Hilton Hawaiian Village, so it is a way of saluting Alfred's legacy 53 years later. Alfred would have been 93 this year, having succumbed to a heart attack at the age of just 40 in 1960. This year's show features: Jeff Apaka, Kawena Mechler, Jeff Au Hoy Trio, Manoa Madness, Darren Benitez Trio, John Cruz, Mihana Souza, and many others. Stage coordinator: Hailama Farden. 2013 Hapa Haole Hula Competition
Classic Hapa Haole Music Lives! Join us for a throw back to this early modern era of hula & music.
In keeping with the hapa-haole tradition, all songs within each category must be sung in English and the theme of the performance must be about Hawai`i.
The era of music must be from the 1900 to 1959 period when classic Hapa Haole music was at it's prime.
Prizes and recognition will be awarded to the winners.
Winning soloists and groups will be showcased at the following day’s Ho`ike and Hawaiian Festival.
Part of the annual "Three Days of Aloha Festival", presented each year by the Ke Kukui Foundation.
