Harry Owens Hapa Haole Songbook

Harry Owens lived from April 18, 1902 to December 12, 1986.
Harry Owens came to Hawaii in 1934 to re-organize the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Orchestra.
He re-arranged many traditional Hawaiian songs, and wrote scores of Hapa Haole songs.
But his biggest hit, “Sweet Leilani”, would win the Academy Award, and change his life forever.
We’ll focus on some of our favorite hapa haole tunes from the “Hapa Haole Songbook – Harry Owens”.
