Royal Hawaiian Girls Glee Club

Following in the footsteps of the Bina Mossman Glee Club, Hawaii’s very 1st all-female Glee Club, formed in 1914, The YWCA Honolulu Girls Glee Club was formed by its director, Louise Akeo, in 1918.
When the Royal Hawaiian Hotel opened on February 1, 1927, the Honolulu Girls were renamed the Royual Hawaiian Girls Glee Club, and were performing on opening night, beginning a lengthy run at the hotel.
Eventually, the Kodak Hula Show was formed and Louise Akeo Silva led the girls to the new show.
So we’ll dive into our 78rpm records archives to hear some of his classic recordings.
Today, almost 90 years later, we’ll share this classic music.
