History of Hawaiian Steel Guitar

Item code: HOCD 34000

History of Hawaiian Steel Guitar - 1927 to 1950 - Acoustic & Electric. This 23 selection compact disc of restored vintage Hawaiian music is an overview of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar's transformation over 4 decades, from its early acoustic sound to the electrically amplified sound more familiar to today's audiences. All recordings were made in Hawaii, save 1, and were sold to local residents. This collection accurately portrays the evolution of the signature sound of Hawaiian music, kika kila, the Hawaiian steel guitar. Famed contemporary Hawaiian steel guitarist contributed information about the tunings and techniques used by each artist to the liner notes by Harry B.
